Why do you need to do this?

Because up to 10,000 Greyhounds* a years retire from racing in the UK and Ireland every single year, and a high percentage of that number disappear, never to be seen again. Many are killed as soon as they stop winning and making money, others are put out in remote areas and left to fend for themselves, some are just left, tied up somewhere to starve to death. We do not think that this is a fit and proper end for these wonderful creatures.

Although the Licensed side of the Racing game has it's own charity to look after those dogs, the unlicensed side, the 'flapper' tracks, have no such organisation. They rely on the likes of Northumberland Greyhound Rescue - and others like us - to take their dogs for re-homing, those that consider re-homing, at least!

* Based on the number of dogs that enter the racing game each year, about 10,000, and the number of dogs racing remains about constant.
